Gay Prosek, 72, of Grand Rapids, Minn., passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014, surrounded by her family.
She was born to the late Alvin and Estelle Fuerst in 1942 in Beaver Dam, Wis.
Gay graduated from high school in Cumberland, Wis., and received her Bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. While working for the Iron County extension office in Hurley, Wis., she met her future husband, Carl Prosek, and was married on June 18, 1966.
They moved to the Grand Rapids, Minn., area in 1980, and she became an active member in many organizations, such as First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4-H, GRHS Drama Club, Wendigo Variety Club, and Showboat. A fantastic seamstress, Gay became the Costume Chair for Showboat for 17 years, filling the stage with her vivid creations.
Gay loved quilting, playing Scrabble, reading mysteries, sewing, gardening, and birding. She always looked forward to bowling, playing cards, and doing projects with her womens groups. But she loved most of all her flower gardens that she designed and spending time with her family and friends.
Gay is survived by her husband of 48 years, Carl; two daughters, Cynthia and Denise (Milton Ferris) Prosek both of Minneapolis; two grandsons, Hamilton and Carter Ferris; and numerous nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, in First Evangelical Lutheran Church. A luncheon will follow immediately. Rev. Bernhard Lutz will officiate.
The family has designated First Evangelical Lutheran Church and St. Marys/Essentia Health Foundation for memorial contributions.
Arrangements are with Rowe Funeral Home and Crematory of Grand Rapids, Minn.
