Former Iron River police chief dies

A retired Wisconsin police chief is being remembered as a brave man who unselfishly helped people.

The Iron River Police Department says its former chief, Richard Zens, died of a heart attack after stopping to help put out a car fire and help those who were injured.

The incident happened Saturday in Jackson County, Wis.

Zens had a 39-year career in law enforcement; 17 of those years were in Iron River.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
