Faces & Names: Who holds game show hosting record?
Since 1984, Alex Trebek has been the man with all the answers. On Friday, he set a Guinness World Record for his long tenure at the helm of “Jeopardy.”
With his 6,829th show, Trebek set the record for “most game show episodes hosted by the same presenter (one show).”
“Jeopardy” is heading into its 31st season in September, and Trebek has been at the helm for every one of them. The 73-year-old host is contracted through 2016, and has said nothing thus far about retirement.
“It’s an honor to hold the Guinness World Record for hosting ‘Jeopardy!’ which I’ve often said is the best of reality TV,” Trebek said in a statement.
With each new episode, Trebek will expand his record, making it that much more difficult for anyone to catch him. His closest competitor for that title may be “Wheel of Fortune’s” Pat Sajak, who has hosted the syndicated version of his show since 1983. Sajak is also younger, at only 67 years old.
