Faces & Names: Minnesota woman in top 12 on ‘The Voice’
Staying true to her love of classic rock, Twin Cities singer Kat Perkins took on Journey’s “Open Arms” during the playoff rounds of “The Voice” on Monday night. And her performance was a hit.
The 33-year-old North Dakota native, who now calls Minneapolis home, has been a standout performer throughout the NBC-TV singing competition.
Taking control of the stage and delivering a powerful rendition of the well-known Journey ballad, Perkins dazzled all four celebrity coaches.
Usher said she was “flawless,” while Shakira said Perkins made it seem so “effortless.” Blake Shelton told her it sounded like “her song.” And her own coach, Adam Levine, said Journey songs are challenging and that there was nothing to criticize about Perkins’ performance. It was the best he’s seen so far, Levine said.
Levine picked her as one of his three singers to move onto the top 12 and to the live shows starting Monday.
