Faces & names: Hoskins dies of pneumonia

British actor Bob Hoskins, who starred in films such as “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” has died of pneumonia at the age of 71, his family said Wednesday.

The film star, who was Oscar-nominated for best actor for his portrayal of a petty criminal in the 1986 crime drama “Mona Lisa,” had retired two years ago after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

His big Hollywood break came in 1988 when he played Eddie Valiant in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” a role for which he received a Golden Globe nomination. He then went on to play roles in 1990’s “Mermaids” and 1991’s “Hook.”

He portrayed Hoover in the 1995 movie “Nixon,” earning a Screen Actors Guild nomination.
