Faces & names: Hold Steady, Lucero will open for Replacements in St. Paul
In the unlikely case there are any Replacements fans still on the fence about seeing the reunited locals headline St. Paul’s Midway Stadium on Sept. 13, the band just sweetened the pot by announcing two opening acts, the Hold Steady and Lucero.
Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Hold Steady was born from the ashes of the Minneapolis band Lifter Puller. Guitarist/vocalist Craig Finn and guitarist Tad Kubler formed the group a decade back and have released a half-dozen acclaimed albums, many filled with references to Twin Cities people and places.
Known as one of the hardest-touring bands around, Lucero specializes in blending country, soul and rock colored by the distinctive flavor of the band’s hometown of Memphis, Tenn.
The $50 tickets for the concert will go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday through etix.com and in person at the Midway Stadium box office and the Depot Tavern in downtown Minneapolis. According to the Replacements’ Facebook page, two-thirds of the available seats for the show sold out during several pre-sales last week.
