Essentia clinic, pharmacy to open at Superior Super One

There’s more than groceries at the new Super One Foods store in Superior’s East End.

Beginning today, there will be help for minor injuries and simple illnesses such as sore throats, ear infections, urinary tract infections, pinkeye and rashes that require immediate treatment when Essentia opens a Convenient Care clinic at the store, along with a pharmacy.

“It’s not the place to go for an emergency — if, for example, you had a fracture or a serious medical condition,” clinic manager Laurie Tahtinen said in a statement. “We don’t do X-rays or stitches.”

It’s Essentia’s first Convenient Care clinic in the Twin Ports and will be staffed by a physician’s assistant or a nurse practitioner. At 1,400 square feet, the clinic has two treatment rooms, a laboratory, waiting room for 15 people and a play area for children.

The pharmacy, meanwhile, will offer vaccinations and a drive-through, with prescription pickup available until 7 p.m. weeknights, two hours later than Essentia’s St. Mary’s-Superior Clinic’s pharmacy on Tower Avenue, south of downtown.

Both the pharmacy and clinic will open for the first time at 9 a.m. today. The new Super One, which opened April 13 at 2202 E. Second St., was chosen as the site for the pharmacy and clinic because of its convenient location. The new store replaced two other Super One stores in Superior, at the Belknap Plaza and at 2222 E. Fifth St.

Besides Superior residents, it is intended to serve patients from communities south and east of Superior, such as Solon Springs and Poplar.
