Ernest Roy Solberg Jr., 83, of Blackberry, Minn., beloved husband and best friend of Corrine (Lott) Solberg for 55 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by many of those he lived for, laughed with, and loved on March 15, 2014.

Ernest was born Sept. 26, 1930 in Fosston, Minn., to the late Ernest and Leora (Kissinger) Solberg.

Ernest grew up on a small farm in Debs, Minn. He joined the Marine Corps in 1952, and served for two years. In 1958, he married Corrine Lott.

Ernest was the owner and operator of S & S Welding, Inc. and Escor, Inc. for more than 30 years. Ernest then worked for Progressive Systems, Inc. until he retired at the age of 75.

Ernest was a kind, sweet man who will be remembered best by his tender touch and joy for life. He fulfilled his passions and dreams through hard work and dedication all the while keeping those he loved close by. He was a creative innovator whom lived his life to the fullest.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; his son Daniel and daughter-in-law Kate.

He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his wife Corrine of Grand Rapids, Minn.; his children, Jean (Harold) Weivoda, Richard (Moira) Solberg, Michael (Karen) Solberg, Kimberly (Jeffery) Hussman, Wendy (Paul) Markgraf, Christopher Solberg, Rebecca (Michael Jr) Palbicki, Cathrine (Michael) Beauchene; 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 3 p.m. March 28, 2014 in Mount Calvary Lutheran Church 301 County Road 19, Excelsior, MN 55331. Dinner will follow after the service at Bayview Event Center, 687 Excelsior Blvd, Excelsior, MN.

Burial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Hazelwood Cemetery, 21749 Hwy 2, Blackberry, MN. A lunch will follow at the Sawmill Inn, 2301 S Hwy 169 Grand Rapids, MN, 55744. Arrangements are with Peterson Funeral Chapel of Coleraine. To leave an online message, visit our website at
