This year, Empty Bowl had above-average results because of an increase in sponsor support and online sales, according to a statement from the food bank. Empty Bowl had raised more than $877,000 since its first event in 1994. The number of meals provided by the fundraiser is more than 4.4 million, according to the food bank.

“We are pleased with results,” said Shaye Moris, Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank’s executive director, in the statement. “We are grateful to all of those who contribute to our event and participate. Together we’re putting thousands of meals on the table of Northland residents in need.”

Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank will pass out enough food for 240,000 meals to the 120 Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin nonprofit partners and nearly 44,000 people in need as a result of this year’s Empty Bowl fundraiser.
