Siblings sentenced in UMD student’s death



Eleanor Prokop of Finlayson, Minn., passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 at Pine Medical Health Care Center in Sandstone.

She was born Sept 10, 1920, to George and Mary Heinonen of Finlayson, Minn.

She graduated from Finlayson High School in 1939.

She worked as a house maid on West 7th St in St. Paul before marrying Sgt. Venna Prokop in Fort Snelling on Dec 28, 1940. As an Army wife she traveled all over the United States and Europe. She became very active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, serving ultimately as president in St Louis Park, Minn.

She was predeceased by her husband Venna Prokop; brother Jim Heinonen; and parents George and Mary Heinonen.

She is survived by daughter Debra Prokop; son Dennis Prokop (Joanne) and sisters Evelyn Dancer of Cloquet, Minn., and Gladys Peterson of Virginia, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 in St. Johns Lutheran Church in Finlayson, Minn. Inurnment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements by Methven Funeral Home, Sandstone, Minn.
