Eh? Off to see the Wizard

It’s tornado season.

Coincidently, it is also that time of year when folks gather to celebrate the “Wizard of Oz” at the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids.

This year, a weeklong festival for the 75th anniversary is set to kick off June 10-15, and is slated to include quite a few special events, including the opening of a new 3,000-piece Wizard of Oz exhibit and an attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records top spot in most Wizard of Oz characters in one place at the same time.

To break the current record of 446 fully costumed Wizard of Oz characters in one place, at least 447 enthusiasts would have to be present in full regalia as an “instantly recognizable” character, and be in the same vicinity for at least five minutes. It’s a feat organizers are hoping to pull off at 5:30 p.m.

June 13 on the Evergreen Terrace lawn, adjacent to the museum.

The celebration includes a bevy of special guests and events. To view the events calendar, or to find dates, times, locations and fees, go to judygarlandmuseum.com.

The Judy Garland Museum is at 2727 Highway 169, Grand Rapids.
