The St. Louis River Alliance will put paddle to water with its 2014 Canoe Tour and Picnic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug 16.

This year’s event will feature points of interest on the lower St. Louis River Corridor, which will, according to the alliance, celebrate Duluth’s plans to revitalize the area. Duluth Mayor Don Ness and other area officials will attend as special guests.

The tour begins at Munger Landing, at the base of Clyde Avenue, just off Grand Avenue in Duluth’s Smithville neighborhood.

The cost to participate in the event is $5 for SLRA members (or $20 for the whole family.) Nonmembers can sign up for $10 a person ($30 for a family). Children under 12 are free but must be accompanied by an adult. A limited number of canoes and kayaks are available free of charge for those who don’t have one. To reserve one, participants should register early.
