Edward J. Johnson, 83, of Hermantown, passed away at home surrounded by family on Thursday May 15, 2014.

He was born in Duluth on May 20, 1930 to Elias and Olga Johnson.

Ed was a Korean War Army Veteran, a member of the National Guard with 12 years of military service, past Commander of the Proctor American Legion, member of the All American Club, Teamsters Retiree Club, Teamsters Local 346, and Christ Lutheran Church. He retired from Gateway Foods in 1992. Ed was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Oscar Holm, and brother Henry.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Carol; children Debbie (Randy) Stanius of Cloquet, Bruce (Kim) Johnson of Ramsey, and Kim (Doug) LaFontaine of Zimmerman, Minn.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister Ann Lindstrom; many nieces and nephews, and his circle of wonderful friends.

The family wishes to give a special Thank You to Becca, Marie and the support staff with Essentia Health Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.

VISITATION: 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. Memorial Service on Tuesday May 20, 2014 in Christ Lutheran Church, 2415 Ensign St. Duluth. Inurnment will be at Sunrise Memorial Park.
