Duluth man seriously hurt when rock goes through windshield
A 32-year-old Duluth man was seriously injured Thursday when he was struck by a rock that broke through his windshield along U.S. Highway 2 near Grand Rapids.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported that Carney Lien was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze east on Highway 2 near Alice Road, about four miles east of Grand Rapids, at about 12:45 p.m. when a large rock went through the windshield. Lien lost control of the vehicle and the car vaulted over a driveway.
Lien was taken to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids, then airlifted to Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth with what the Patrol said were serious injuries.
The Patrol did not release information about where the rock may have come from.
