Duluth-based Maurices chain opens 900th store
Maurices, the women’s clothing chain that began with a store in downtown Duluth in 1931, reached a major milestone this month.
The store, in Fresno, Calif., is one of 60 new stores the national retailer, still based in Duluth, is opening in the United States and Canada during its
fiscal year ending in July.
That will bring the total to 925 stores.
“We’re thrilled with the growth of our stores and e-commerce business and the continued demand for Maurices,” Maurices President George Goldfarb said in a statement. “We’re committed to giving our customer a great shopping
experience wherever and whenever she shops us — store or online.”
On a fast track, Maurices has opened more than 250 stores in the past five years with sales growing 65 percent, according to the company.
The chain’s goal is to grow to more than 1,200 stores in the United States and 100 stores in Canada. In Duluth, Maurices has a store at Miller Hill Mall.
