Dorothy Elmquist, 96, of Primrose in Duluth, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 in her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Duluth to Daniel and Anna (Weatherhead) Helewski.
Dorothy retired in 1974 after working many years at St. Marys Hospital Dietary Department. She enjoyed family, friends, gardening, sewing, quilting and traveling.
Dorothy was active in Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and the Gnesen Senior Citizens. She was a member of St. Benedicts Catholic Church for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her sons, Tony, Donald and Richard; James and his wife Barbara Elmquist; her daughter, Barbara McLeod; her grandson, Hunter Hanson; great grandsons, Cal and Cade Branscombe; her siblings, John, Jerry, Daniel "Jim" Helweski and Mary Anderson.
Survivors include her daughters, Eileen Pfisthner, Beverly Grant, Betty (Ken) Langenberger, Sharon Hansen-Rissi, Peggy (Jim) Torrance, Virginia (Butch) Orrey, Mary (Bob) Wakefield, Joanne (Bruce) Hanson; her sons, Rod (Lynn), Warren and Leon; her sister, Sal (Bill) Rother; sister in-law, Lois Helewski; 42 grandchildren; 75 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Primrose Retirement Community for the wonderful care she received.
VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. TODAY Thursday, June 19,, with a rosary at 7 p.m. in Dougherty Funeral Home Chapel and will continue Friday, June 20, 2014 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service in the chapel. Interment will beat at Calvary Cemetery.
