Superior oil refinery rocked by explosions, fire

Doris H. Gillette of Hermantown, passed away peacefully after a short illness surround by family, just one week after celebrating her 90th birthday.

Doris loved and was loved by the many children in her life who knew her only as Grandma Dodo. After many years of volunteer work at a local nursing home, Doris was awarded Minnesota State Volunteer of the Year in Activities for 2004.

Most recently she chose to be a donor to the University of Minnesota Bequest Program, for which her family is very proud.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Charles; infant son, Gary; parents, Anton and Anna Halvorson and sisters, Nell, Ella, Ruth and Agnes.

She is survived by and deeply missed by her daughter, Cynthia (Roger Hurd) Gillette-Hurd; son, Scott (Cindy) Gillette; grandsons, Scotty, Travis and Cameron Gillette; best friend Teddy Hughes; friend and caregiver Elizabeth Eastvold; goddaughter Patricia Alander; nieces and nephews, many relatives and friends, and her puppy and companion Precious Anna.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22, with visitation one hour prior in Dougherty Funeral Home. Memorials to the Animal Human Society or charity of choice. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd St. Duluth, (218) 727-3555.
