Donovan Jones, 91, passed away peacefully at his home at Elderwood of Hinckley on April 20, 2014.
He was born on Oct. 2, 1922.
He grew up in Chicago, Ill., where he graduated from high school. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged after being awarded two bronze star medals. He then moved to Moose Lake, Minn., where he met his wife Gladys Davis. Donovan and his family enjoyed many summers filled with camping, traveling and fishing. He retired after 25 years as an investigator for the BCA in the state of Minnesota. He was proud of the fact that he was retired longer than he worked. Donovan and Gladys enjoyed traveling during retirement. They had their base home in Mahtowa, Minn. After his wife died, he made Donna, Texas his permanent home. In 2012 he moved back to Minnesota to be closer to his family. Donovan continued to enjoy and participate in his life-long hobbies of fishing, hunting, target practice and traveling abroad up until he turned 90 years old.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys; sister Gloria Davis; brothers-in-law, Elmer Davis and Henry Davis; and his sister-in-law Irene Davis.
He is survived by his children, Douglas (Gail) Jones, Deborah (Daniel) Rydberg; grandchildren, Erin Jones, Nathan (Jonelle) Jones, Kendra Jones, Anna Rydberg and Daniel Rydberg; great grandchildren, Sydney Rydberg-Olsen, Blaise Olsen, Solei Olsen, Arissa Rydberg, Lexie Rydberg and Addison Rydberg; sister-in-law Jerine Jones.
GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 9:45 am. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
