DNR proposes four new Northeast trout streams
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is taking public comments on a proposal to designate four additional streams in St. Louis, Lake and Carlton Counties as official trout streams, the agency announced Tuesday.
The designation would give the streams additional protections for both water quality, and trout habitat as well as trout populations in the streams.
The streams proposed are:
r Tributary 13 to the French River in Normana Township, St. Louis County.
r Palmer Creek in Duluth Township in St. Louis County.
r Pete’s Creek in Silver Creek Township in Lake County.
r Spring Creek, a tributary to Blackhoof River, in Blackhoof Township in Carlton County.
The DNR also is looking for public comment on removing Carey Creek in Gnesen Township in St. Louis County from trout stream designation because its water is now too warm to sustain any trout. The creek runs into Island Lake.
Written comments will be accepted through October and can be sent to Deserae Hendrickson, DNR Fisheries, 5351 North Shore Drive, Duluth, MN 55804, or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
