Darrel "Doc" W. Pfeffer, 67, Superior, passed away Friday, June 13, 2014 in Solvay Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.

Darrel was born May 9, 1947 in Duluth to William and Carol Pfeffer. He was the oldest of 11 children. He was a 1965 graduate of Morgan Park High School. Darrel went on to serve in the Army National Guard for 6 years. He worked at the Morgan Park Steel Plant for a brief time, then went to work for the Missabe Railroad. Darrel worked various jobs at the ore docks including list man, machine operator and control operator. He was then promoted to supervisor of dock operations in 1977, supervising operations at Duluth and Two Harbors. He was instrumental in the development/coordination of the "Docks Safety Program". Darrel "retired" from the railroad after nearly 40 yrs.

After retirement, Darrel remained very busy, trading stocks, golfing, being outdoors, especially in his garden & spending time with his friends at Nemadji Golf Course, Belknap & Aces. Darrel was known for his quick wit, kindness, generosity & always helping others. The impact of his friendship & kindness was evidenced by the outpouring of caring and concern he felt by the many visitors and friends that visited with him to the end of his life. He appreciated each visit.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents William & Carol and a nephew Aric.

He is survived by his loving family, brothers Douglas of Carlton, Gerald of Wrenshall, Rodney (Wendy), Dean (Amanda, Scott & Todd of Duluth; sisters Karyn (Timmy), Cindy Lukanen, Tammy of Duluth & Denise (John Holmes of Wrenshall; Uncle Ron & Karla Leaf; numerous nieces, nephews; great nieces & nephews; his special friend Susan Gall and many other special friends.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 12 noon Saturday June 21, 2014 in the Fond Du Lac Community Church, 513 131st Ave W, Duluth. Following the memorial service, a luncheon will be held at the Oliver Town Hall, 21125 East State Street, Oliver, Wisc.
