Crews still working to restore power in Eveleth on Wednesday
Minnesota Power reported Wednesday that areas surrounding St. Mary’s Lake in Eveleth remained without power after Tuesday’s thunderstorm that dropped trees on power lines and felled power poles throughout northern Minnesota.
Thirty-three line crews were working all day to restore the power. About 20 power poles had to be replaced.
“Eveleth was one of the hardest-hit areas,” said Amy Rutledge, a spokeswoman for Minnesota Power. “The crews are working quickly and safely.”
Power was restored for 172 Eveleth customers about 7 p.m. Wednesday. But about 12 customers were still without power there Wednesday night. Rutledge said the cause is a line at the intersection of U.S. Highway 53 and Minnesota Highway 37 that has to be restrung.
Power was anticipated to be restored early this morning.
Additional crews from Duluth and Cloquet were also dispatched to assist with the outages in Eveleth.
