Charlie A. Sandstrom
Charlie A. Sandstrom, 96, of Duluth passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Duluth.
He was born on Aug. 8, 1917 in Alborn, Minn., to Carl and Sophia (Cargus) Sandstrom and grew up in Embarrass.
On April 8, 1939 he married Lillian "Lolly" Hill in Virginia. Charlie worked as a baker in the construction of the Alcan Highway and at Thule Air Force Base in Greenland. He was the owner of Range Maid Bakery in Eveleth, Duluth and Superior. He was a grocery broker and retired at 70, and spent his retirement in Duluth and at his cabin on Ely Lake.
Charlie was a member of the Eveleth Masonic Lodge 239; Scottish Rite of Duluth and AAD Temple Shrine of Hermantown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lillian Sandstrom in 2002; three brothers, Folke, Lennart and Axel Sandstrom; and four sisters, Selma O'Brien, Mary Shipley, Vera Parin and Eva Christiansen.
He is survived by three sons, Roger (Susan) Sandstrom of Mt. Iron, Minn., Dean (Lisbeth) Sandstrom of Fairfield, Ohio and Gary Sandstrom of Iowa; four grandchildren, Denita (Randy) Hensler of Cincinnati, Ohio, Janelle (Joseph) Rothenbach of Cincinnati, Ohio, Paula (Kevin) Hansen of Lakeville, Minn., and Ronald Sandstrom of Superior, Wis.; and five great-grandchildren, Brodie, Devon, Hailey, Michael and Nicholas.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2014 in the Landmark Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia with Brenda Tibbetts, AiM officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the Eveleth Cemetery.
