CECELIA MAYME SWADER

Cecelia Mayme Swader, 87, a resident of Grand Portage, formerly of Duluth, walked on, Wednesday, July 16, 2014 while at the Cook County North Shore Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Dec. 25, 1926 in Duluth.

Cecelia left Chippewa City at the age of 16 to work in the ship yards during World War II. On Dec. 31, 1945 she married Henry Swader. Cecelia was a member of the Grand Portage Band of Chippewa.

She was a very active volley ball player and enjoyed spending time in the woods with her family.

Cecelia worked at Lakeshore Lutheran Home and later as a Home Health Aide for St. Louis County, retiring in 1991.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry in 1991; and a sister, Bess Lawrey.

Cecelia is survived by her children, Reynaldo (Judy) of Duluth, Ricardo of Duluth, Orlando of Grand Portage, Maria (Mark) Gerard of Duluth, Antonio "Tony" (Kathryn) of grand Portage, Marcus (Tina) of Hibbing and Carlos (Julie) of Duluth; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces, Lynda (Richard) Hnatek of Duluth and Elyse Lawrey of Duluth; best friend, Nellie Millberger.

The family would like to thank Dr. Sampson and staff of the Cook County North Shore Hospital and Grand Portage Clinic for their excellent care of Cecelia.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, July 21, in Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., 624-5200. A gathering will also be held in Grand Portage at a later date.
