Carl Anders "Andy" Carlson, 95, of Hermantown, passed from this life on April 24, 2014.

Andy was born March 19, 1919 in Mjolby, Sweden to C. Martin and Signe Carlson.

His family immigrated to the United States in 1926. Andy graduated from Proctor High School and then attended Young and Hursch Business School. Together with his father and two brothers, he started Arrowhead Concrete Works in 1937. This became his lifetime work until he retired in 1981.

Andy served in the U.S. Army during World War II, taking part in the D-day invasions of Leyte and Bataan, P.I. In 1946 he married Everiene Anderson and together they raised three children, Judy, Douglas and Joyce.

He was a charter member of Mark Christian Post 558 of the American Legion, former Director and Vice-President of Airport State Bank, and a former Director of North Shore Bank of Commerce. He was an active member of First Covenant Church and many civic organizations.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Everiene and brothers, Hjalmar and Bertil.

Andy is survived by his children Judy (Perry) Rowlison, Douglas (Nancy) Carlson and Joyce (Jim) Asp; grandchildren Jon (Michelle) Rowlison, Jammie (Michael) Anick, Jill (Alan) Brubaker, Jason (Missy) Carlson, Michelle Asp and Katie (Jason) Schmidt; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Ollie (Gilbert) Johnson, sister-in-law Virginia Carlson; special friend Della Paavola.

GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 12:30 p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service Saturday, April 26, in First Covenant Church, 2101 West 2nd St. Entombment will be at Sunrise Memorial Park. Memorials may be given to First Covenant Church, designated to the Covenant World Missions. Arrangements entrusted to First Memorial Chapel, 624-5200.
