* A recommendation that 80 teaching and specialist positions be terminated at the close of the school year will go before the Duluth School Board tonight. The proposed cuts result from a projected decline in enrollment and loss of funding.

* A study released this week recommends changes to Duluth’s garbage hauling system that would streamline routes and reduce administrative costs. One recommendation is to establish 16 to 18 collection zones within the city with each zone served by one hauler.
* Jim “Iron Legs” Weaver, the White Earth Reservation member who walked from northwestern Minnesota to Washington, D.C., last summer, is still waiting for a meeting with President Clinton. Weaver said he has written the president and called the White House with no success.
