Amid reports that Duluth's Air National Guard unit might be deactivated in 1976, Col. Wayne C. Gatlin, the unit's commander, voiced hope yesterday that it would be assigned a new mission. Gatlin said the Duluth unit is fully staffed with 950 people.

Old Main, which closed in 1985, was on the National Register of Historic Places. The controversial plans for an outlet mall just west of Duluth's Bayfront Park still hinge on a land deal. The land, owned by Richard Amatuzio and home to Northstar Marine, is currently tied up in negotiation.
