  • Duluth Mayor Ben Boo yesterday unveiled a $34.2 million annual capital improvement program that includes a $1 million West End truck center and a $4.5 million Arena-Auditorium annex. Boo presented his program at a dinner meeting with the City Council.

  • Amid reports that Duluth's Air National Guard unit might be deactivated in 1976, Col. Wayne C. Gatlin, the unit's commander, voiced hope yesterday that it would be assigned a new mission. Gatlin said the Duluth unit is fully staffed with 950 people.

  • A yearlong police investigation into the fire that destroyed UMD's historic Old Main ended yesterday with the arrest of a Duluth man charged with second-degree arson. Old Main, which closed in 1985, was on the National Register of Historic Places.
  • The controversial plans for an outlet mall just west of Duluth's Bayfront Park still hinge on a land deal. The land, owned by Richard Amatuzio and home to Northstar Marine, is currently tied up in negotiation.
