  • Federal District Judge Miles Lord yesterday ordered Reserve Mining Co. to present a plan for on-land disposal of taconite tailings by March 15. Lord's ruling followed testimony from Reserve witnesses that such a plan exists.

  • The retirement of Guy H.M. Warren, veteran Duluth school principal, at the close of the school year was approved yesterday by the Duluth School Board. Warren, who began as a teacher in 1933, has worked in Duluth schools for 41 years.

  • The Superior Spartans hockey team scored in the second overtime yesterday to beat No. 1-ranked Madison Memorial 4-3 in the Wisconsin high school title game before 2,655 at Dane County Coliseum. It was the first double-overtime championship game in tournament history.
  • Lakeshore Lutheran Home in Duluth is launching a $500,000 capital campaign to renovate its building to expand services. The campaign will pay for a unit for people with short-term health care needs and a unit for residents with dementia-related diagnoses.
