  • The Arrowhead Regional Development Commission has applied for an $80,000 grant to lease, install and staff a remote batch computer terminal. The new computer hardware would give the agency access to other computer information systems and would increase planning efficiency.
  • The Shrine Circus opens a three-day run today in the Duluth Arena featuring Kaye’s Continental Circus with animal, aerial and acrobatic acts. A circus parade including units of the Aad Shrine Temple will start at noon today on Superior Street.

    • City of Duluth officials said yesterday the 25-year street reconstruction plan will not start until next year because of the delay in City Council approval last fall. Six miles of city streets are expected to be rebuilt next summer.
    • Larry Hutchinson, who has directed Spirit Mountain since 1984, will leave this summer for a new job in Montana. Hutchinson will become vice president and chief operating officer of the Big Mountain, a ski resort in Whitefish.
