  • Lt. Cmdr. David R. Wheat and Ginger Hutchings of Duluth were married yesterday at First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Donald E. Selger. Wheat was shot down over Vietnam in 1965 and spent more than six years as a POW.
  • Softball officials throughout the area are hopeful of a break in the weather this week so some games can be played. Rain has hampered play since the scheduled start of the season three weeks ago and some teams have yet to take the field.

    • It went right down to the wire, but Duluth public schools teachers will end the school year today with a new contract. The Duluth School Board yesterday voted 7-2 to approve a 1993-95 contract that will cost the district about $3.4 million.
    • An agreement signed yesterday by ABC Rail Products Corp. and Burlington Northern Railroad will bring another $15 million in sales to ABC over the next five years. The company makes rail switches, crossings and other products at plants in Superior and Duluth.
