  • Although self-service gasoline stations have been legal in Minnesota for a few days, none is reported in operation yet. Apparently one of the first companies to offer completely self-service stations in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area will be McKee Oil Co.

  • The Two Harbors City Band will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a special concert this week at Thomas Owens Park. Guest conductor for the diamond celebration will be Earl Slocum, a past president of the American Bandmasters Association.

    • Diamond Tool and Horseshoe workers attended an Opportunity Expo yesterday at Denfeld High School. The employees, who will lose their jobs when the plant closes in October, browsed exhibits, studied school brochures and talked to potential employers.
    • Minnesota Twins slugger Kent Hrbek, who has been with the team since 1981, is expected to announce his retirement today. Hrbek has been part of some memorable moments, such as his sixth-inning grand slam in Game 6 of the 1987 World Series.
