* Three judges from the 8th District Court of Appeals yesterday gave Reserve Mining Co. one week to reach agreement with the state of Minnesota on a site for on-land disposal of taconite tailings. The judges seemed to recommend a site near Lax Lake.

* A tentative $5.3 million settlement was announced yesterday in a lawsuit between 15 Minnesota counties and Minnesota Power & Light Co. The company had claimed exemption from personal property taxes on equipment used in the production, sale and distribution of its products.

* Replanting and landscaping was completed this summer at the rose garden in Leif Erikson Park atop the Interstate 35 tunnel, which caused the garden’s demise five years ago. Dedication ceremonies for the rose garden will be held this weekend.

* When Duluth’s Wade Stadium was renovated for the Dukes two years ago, the city looked to area pull-tab operators for help footing the bill. With pull-tab profits now plummeting, the city’s plan to pay for the stadium isn’t working.
