  • The Duluth Airport Authority learned yesterday that the new terminal building probably won’t be completed until mid- to late September. John Grinden, airport manager, said two second-level loading bridges won’t be delivered until after Sept. 1.

  • This weekend, the four diamonds at Duluth’s Wheeler Field will host the Minnesota State Fast Pitch Softball Tournament in Class AA, Single A and Recreational divisions. For weeks, city crews have been grooming the fields for the 83-team tournament.

    • Duluth pipe organ building company Jaeckel Inc. is currently completing its 27th organ, to be installed in a Richmond, Va., church. The company’s organs are sold to churches, concert halls, universities and, occasionally, private homes, and cost from $35,000 to $1 million.
    • After 21 days in northern Washington, about 100 Northland firefighters returned to the Duluth International Airport yesterday. It was an abrupt end to a tour of duty that lasted a week longer than expected and created vivid memories for crew members.
