* The Duluth City Council last night authorized the city attorney to bring the city into the Reserve Mining Co. case on the side of the plaintiffs. The Northeastern Minnesota Development Association failed in an appeal to have the city side with the mining firm.

* Federal civil defense specialists will be in Duluth next week to help plan how to keep residents safe if the nation is pushed to the brink of nuclear war. Duluth is one of eight cities scheduled as experimental sites for the program.

* A decision isn’t expected for several weeks on the impending sale of Cobb and Lakeside school buildings, school officials said yesterday. Staff will review the bids, and the final decision will be made by School Board members at a special meeting.

* Three inmates from the Duluth Federal Prison Camp were in Ironworld yesterday to talk to ninth-graders from Chisholm and Hibbing about mistakes they have made in their lives. It was part of the “Teens, Crime and the Community” program that started in January.
