Burton J. Tranvik, 90, of Duluth, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 19, 2014, with his family at his side.

He was born June 25, 1923 in Duluth to Isaac and Thora (Seglem) Tranvik.

Burton was a graduate of Denfeld High School and received a degree from the Dunwoody Institute. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Merchant Marines. On Oct. 21, 1950 Burton married Nancy M. Gaetano.

Burton retired from Minnesota Power (Allete) in Duluth. He was a member of the Duluth Curling Club, Sarasota Lawn Bowling Club and the Duluth and Sarasota Lions Clubs. Burton was a longstanding member of the First Lutheran Church in Duluth.

Burton was preceded in death by a daughter, Gretchen Tranvik; his parents; and a brother, Mark Tranvik.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Andrea Bolger of Minneapolis, Christine Ron) Vorce of Duluth and Peter (Cynthia) Tranvik of Bertha, Minn.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Dahl of Hermantown; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 12 Noon until the 1 p.m. memorial service Friday, April 25th in First Lutheran church, 1100 E. Superior St. Arrangements entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota, 624-5200.
