Brugnoni, Huskies win in 12 against St. Cloud
Dominic Brugnoni’s single scored Michael Tinsley in the top of the 12th inning to lift the Duluth Huskies to a 5-4 victory over the St. Cloud Rox in a Northwoods League baseball game on Thursday night before 2,012 at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud.
The Huskies pounced on Rox starter Josh Taylor, collecting seven hits and scoring four runs to chase him in the third inning. Duluth had trouble pushing a run across after that, going eight scoreless innings before Brugnoni’s heroics.
Both teams left 13 men on base, with the Huskies leaving 22 men on base over the last two games alone.
Tinlsey led off the last inning by getting hit by a pitch, the fourth hit batsman of the game. Duluth then sacrificed him to second in a wise move given the Huskies’ two hot-hitting Dominics, Dominic Miroglio and Brugnoni, were due up next.
Miroglio responded with a single to move Tinsley to third and Brugnoni followed with the game winner.
Steve Villines (W, 3-1) pitched three innings of shutout ball to get the victory for the Huskies (7-8), including four of the team’s 10 strikeouts, while Brugnoni and Miroglio finished with four hits apiece. Chris Paul had two hits and two runs to lead the Rox (9-8).
The same teams have a rematch at 7:05 p.m. today in St. Cloud.
