Aitkin Sheriff Scott Turner, Cass Sheriff Tom Burch and Itasca Sheriff Vic Williams will represent their counties and host the conference that brings vital senior safety information and quality presenters to our seniors.

This year’s keynote speaker is Trudy Gregorie, who has 25 years of experience in the crime victim services and criminal justice fields and has appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Ed Hutchison, traffic safety director at the National Sheriffs’ Association, will be the special guest of the conference. Hutchison is also the program director for the National Association of TRIADs Inc., an older adult safety community outreach program, which also includes older driver issues.

The TRIAD program thrives in 32 states with 640 chapters and maintains about 17,000 volunteers nationwide. Hutchison will be involved in the TRIAD 101 and Best Practices sessions. Best Practices is the foundation of the TRIAD conferences and provides an opportunity for seniors, law enforcement and senior providers to share and learn how various TRIAD groups are enhancing senior safety in their communities. Mike Rothman, Minnesota Commissioner of Commerce, also will present during the conference.

Several other sessions will be offered: Technology 101 — How to Survive in Today’s Age; Citizen Safety Awareness Training; As We Age: and Roundtable Discussion of In-Home Senior Services, including Angels (McGregor), Cass County Public Health, Itasca County Public Health and Council on Aging. The conference also will feature a panel discussion on emergency preparedness and sheltering, with emergency management directors from Aitkin, Cass and Itasca Counties, Tony Guerra from Red Cross and Roy Holmes from Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

For more information on TRIAD and the conference or to get a registration form, contact Pauline Fahey at the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at (218) 547-7308 or pauline.fahey@co.cass.mn.us.
