BlueStone to build Lofts II
Less than a year after BlueStone Lofts opened with 100 upscale, loft-style apartments geared to college students, developer Mark Lambert is preparing to do it again.
“We plan on starting Lofts II next January,” developer Mark Lambert told the News Tribune last week.
The second housing complex in his mixed-use BlueStone Commons development along Woodland Avenue, just east of the University of Minnesota Duluth, will have even more units — 120 apartments — for students and others.
It will be built northeast of the $16 million, four-story BlueStone Lofts, between the BlueStone development and the Mount Royal area.
While the first Lofts complex offers one- to four-bedroom, furnished apartments, Lofts II probably will have one- and two-bedroom units, with only half furnished, Lambert said.
He’s confident the demand for BlueStone’s housing will be there.
“I see enough market for those two buildings,” he said.
The news comes on the heels of Lambert’s plans to start construction this summer of a second retail center at BlueStone and an expansion of 60 units underway at his Summit Ridge luxury apartments in Duluth.
