A ruby-throated hummingbird sips nectar from a dahlia in a garden in Lakewood Township recently. Photographing hummingbirds was much harder than I expected. They’re very skittish. After long waits I was only able to shoot two pictures on each try. Every time the shutter clacked, the birds zipped off. Most of my photos show blurred outlines, but finally, I succeeded in getting a few frames like this one. (Photo essay by Bob King / rking@duluthnews.com)
