Best Bets: Trampled By Turtles, Low and more at Bayfront Festival Park
It’s about to get real Minnesota music-y around here: Trampled By Turtles headlines a four-band bill that includes Low, Haley Bonar and Doomtree on Saturday at Bayfront Festival Park.
The bluegrass band bred on local stages is about a month from releasing its next album. “Wild Animals” hits stores on July 15 — the same day the band of Dave Simonett, Dave Carroll, Tim Saxhaug, Ryan Young and Erik Berry are booked for a return on “Late Show with David Letterman.”
Low has been playing shows close to its home base, but will jet of to Iceland for ATP Iceland, a boutique festival in Keflavik featuring bands like Portishead, Interpol, Devandra Banhart and more.
Doomtree is a Minneapolis-based hip-hop collective that includes Dessa, Sims, Cecil Otter, Mike Mictlan, Lazerbeak, Paper Tiger and P.O.S. The musicians tour independently and also together — a scenario that was captured in the documentary “Team the Best Team.”
Haley Bonar’s music career started here and the singer-songwriter has recently released the album “Last War.” NPR said of it: “A bright, subtle storyteller, she displays a mastery of pop-rock craftsmanship that keeps these songs as relentlessly catchy on the surface as they are alluringly complex underneath.”
