Best Bets: It’s a Who’s Who plus the Guess Who
The two-day newbie Howling Moon Festival features a lineup of some of the best bands with local ties and a spattering of national acts, including headliners Brandi Carlile and the band behind “American Woman.”
And, if we play our cards right, Bayfront Festival Park might just ring with the sounds of “Closer to Free,” blowing dust off all of our old “Party of Five” emotions. (The BoDeans play Saturday).
Nicholas David, a Homegrown Music Festival alum-slash-Duluth Grill regular who placed third on “The Voice” qualifies as both.
Other highlights of the fest include Sarah Krueger, who won Homegrown — or at least placed — with her Beyonce-style choreography, The 4onthefloor, a Twin Cities blues-rock band that seems to get its mail here, and the consistently concert-abled Alexy brothers of Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank.Jeremy Messersmith, who plays Saturday, recently released the album “Heart Murmurs” and NPR said of it: “With its subtle strings and sly infectiousness, ‘Heart Murmurs’ is no less than an attempt to craft a new batch of pop standards.”
