Best Bets: Brian Laidlaw & the Family Trade play RTs
Just in time for all the Dylan’s birthday hoopla: a folk band fronted by an artist whose EP “Echolalia” takes the myth of Echo and Narcissus to Hibbing, Minn., and takes a page from the high school relationship between Robert Zimmerman and “The Girl from the North Country.”
The EP was recorded at the all analog tape facility, Tiny Telephone Studio in San Francisco, where bands like tUnE-yArDs and the Mountain Goats have recorded.
Brian Laidlaw & the Family Trade play a show at 10 p.m. Friday at RT Quinlan’s.
If you dig what he’s doing, Brian Laidlaw has plans to release a companion to the EP. A book of poems and the album “Narcissus and the Stuntman” have been acquired by Milkweed Editions and will be published in 2015.
