Best Bets: Art institute has happy little trees
Bob Ross, the landscape artist with an affinity for happy trees who spoke in soothing tones and favored yellow ochre, will be the featured artist during the Duluth Art Institute’s Paint-A-Long fundraiser.
No, not in person. Ross died in 1995. But his legend lives on in episodes of “Joy of Painting,” which first aired on PBS in the 1980s and featured 30-minute episodes that took viewers from a blank canvas to a complete landscape.
Artists — including well-known locals like Adam Swanson, Chris Monroe and Brian Barber — will paint along with a classic episode from Ross’ catalog. Stick around: The artists’ work will be auctioned. There is still room available for local hobbyists looking for a tutorial on “pretty little mountains.”Price includes supplies and light refreshments.
