Best Bets: Andrew W.K. plays the Rex
You probably know Andrew W.K. as the fun guy behind lyrics like “Partyhardpartyhardpartyhard,” but the perfomer recently landed back in the limelight for a response he wrote in his weekly Village Voice advice column. Son of a Right-Wing Republican asked how to handle his father, who he accused of being intent on ruining the planet with his politics.
W.K.’s response: Stop reducing this man to his political beliefs; Love him because he’s your father.
Check out what kind of handy advice Andrew W.K. has when he plays Friday at Rex Bar.
W.K., a sort of teen comedy mascot character, stormed the collective conscience as the white shirt with white pants and white shoes leader of the Party Party in the early 2000s. Songs include: “Party Hard,” “It’s Time to Party,” “Pary Til You Puke.”
W.K. has dabbled in many facets of the pop culture machine — musician, advice columnist, party connoisseur, idea man — and told the New York Times in 2012: “What I would really like it to be is that I just show up, and whether it’s a concert or it’s talking, the same essential experience is available.”
The Social Disaster opens.
