AUTO RACING: Campbell wins first feature of the season
Jim Campbell of Two Harbors survived a caution-filled finale to win his first Super Stock feature of the season Friday night at Amsoil Speedway in Superior.
It was a clean sweep for Campbell, who also won his heat race.
Carey LePage of Culver won the Midwest Modified feature while Lucas Carlson of Cloquet won in Pure Stocks to seal his first season points championship.
Friday’s race was part of “Season Championship Week,” with Late Models, Modifieds and Pure Stocks scheduled to race Tuesday before it was rained out.
The 2014 Amsoil Speedway track champions are Harry Hanson (Late Models), Kelly Estey (Modifieds), Nick Oreskovich (Super Stocks), Skeeter Estey (Midwest Modifieds) and Carlson (Pure Stocks). The most closely contested division was Midwest Modifieds, where Skeeter Estey went into Friday just one point behind his younger brother, Mack. Neither Estey had a great night, but Skeeter won his heat and finished 11th in the feature, two spots ahead of Mack, to edge his brother for the title.
- With Proctor Speedway’s season championships rained out, the season points battles were anticlimactic. The 2014 Proctor Speedway champions are Hanson (Late Models), Deven VanHouse (Modifieds), Scott Lawrence (Super Stocks), VanHouse (Midwest Modifieds) and Michael Blevins (Pure Stocks).
