Authorities ID victim, driver in fatal van-bike collision in Duluth

Duluth police have released the identities of a 6-year-old boy fatally struck by a vehicle Saturday and the driver of the van that hit him.

Daniel Joseph Borisovich Nektalov was crossing the 400 block of Clark Court, in the Duluth Heights neighborhood, on a bike just after 3:30 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by a van driven by 45-year-old Bridgette Marie Tyson.

Nektalov was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a helmet, police spokesman Jim Hansen said.

Tyson told police that she did not see the boy until the collision already had occurred, according to a police report. Police reported that Tyson showed no signs of impairment, but the incident remained under investigation Monday.
