Arthur Walter Blix 83, of Hermantown, Minn., passed away on Aug. 9, 2014 in Essentia Health Care Center Duluth, surrounded by his family.

Arthur was born on April 17, 1931 to Emil and Mathilda (Johnson) Blix in Fosston, Minn.

He attended and graduated from the Fosston High School in 1949, then attended Dunwoody before working for the state of Minnesota as a design engineer. In 1952 Arthur begin his service in the Army during the Korean Conflict as a radio operator and was discharged in 1954. He married Beverly Trandem on Sept. 25, 1954 in Erskine, Minn. Arthur, Bev and their children were transferred by the State of Minnesota to Crookston, St. Paul and Duluth where they made their home until his retirement from the Minnesota highway department in 1986. After retirement he and Beverly moved to Naples, Fla., for 10 years and later lived in Erskine for 13 years before moving back to Duluth.

Arthur enjoyed woodworking, stained glass, hunting, fishing and camping.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Arthur is survived by his wife Beverly; children Randy (Barb) Blix, Proctor, Minn., Jeff (Liz) Blix, Duluth, Laura (John) Parkhurst, Rhode Island, Brad (Heidi) Blix, Superior, Wis., Brenda (Jim McKinnon) Johnson, Duluth; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; five nieces and nephews; sister Vivian Nord, Fosston, Minn., and his special K9 friend Dolly.

GATHERING OF FRIENDS AND FAMILY: 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014 until the 11 a.m. memorial service in Sunrise Memorial Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk, Hermantown. Minn. Inurnment will be at Sunrise Memorial Park, Hermantown, Minn. Arrangements by Sunrise Funeral Home, Hermantown, Minn.
