ALICE J. ALVAR
Alice J. Alvar (Grandma A.) 84, Duluth went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, May 9, 2014 with her loving family by her side. She spent her last days with the loving care of her daughter Becky and granddaughter Sarah Bruley in their home.
Alice was born in Long Prairie, Minn July 2, 1929 to Charley and Irene Schultz. She was united in marriage on Sept. 14, 1946 to Louis A. Alvar. She cherished her family and many knew her for her strong faith in her Lord as it is exemplified in her love, generosity, and boldness. She was known as Grandma A to her family and the many children from the Gnesen Headstart where she was a Foster Grandparent.
Alice was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and shared her faith in Jesus whenever possible, even to the doctors and care givers in her final days. She will be most remembered by her expertise in sewing and cooking. She loved to play games such as Rummikub, Cribbage, and Canasta.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son David; and grandson Luke. Also, by brothers, Charles, Lawrence, and Robert Schultz.
She is survived by her children, Richard (Lynn), Tim (Mary), Tom (Sheryl), and Rebecca (Michael) Bruley; as well as 17 grandchildren, 18 (+2) great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
VISITATION: 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 23, and 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24 with a Celebration of Life service at noon. Services will be held under the direction of Pastor David Mork at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1505 Eklund Ave., Duluth.
