The Music Department at the University of Wisconsin-Superior hosted the Tri-State High School Jazz Band Festival on Oct. 12 and more than 40 high school students from Wisconsin and Minnesota were selected to perform in the two honors jazz ensembles.

Students participated in rehearsals throughout the day with Greg Kehl Moore, director of jazz studies at UWS, along with guest clinician David Hagedorn. Hagedorn is an artist in residence at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., where he teaches percussion, jazz studies and world music. Students also benefited from attending a jazz improvisation clinic presented by Hagedorn. The evening concert included performances by the UWS Jazz Ensemble and the Tri-State Honor Jazz Ensembles.
