Mentor Duluth matches caring adults with children who can benefit from positive role models.
Meet Jordan and Mykayla:
Jordan and Mykayla were matched in May. They had an instant connection because they both love animals, especially dogs. They both own dogs, so it was an easy way for Jordan to break the ice with Mykayla their first time hanging out.
They've done many activities over the summer, such as romping around at a trampoline park, visiting the aquarium and soaking up the sun on the Vista Fleet.
More recently, they enjoyed a special trip to a local art studio, where they painted the northern lights in a Minnesota silhouette. It was an inspiring, artistic experience for the both of them and at the end of the class, they were able to take the piece home with them. Mykayla said this has been her favorite activity so far. They are planning on going back to do another painting.
"Every time we meet, I'm excited to hear about the latest news in her life and always provide guidance if ever asked," Jordan said. "I don't see it as a one-way street by any means. My mentee enjoys my presence and friendship and is learning, while I get the same in return ... to help each other learn, grow, and exceed in life are just a few of the benefits this program delivers, all while having fun."
