Duluth Seaway Port Authority gets award for cargo output

The Duluth Seaway Port Authority has been honored as one of six organizations on the Great Lakes increasing international cargo.

The St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corp. announced Tuesday that the authority was receiving the Robert J. Lewis Pacesetter Award for its increases of international tonnage in 2013. Other ports that showed increases were in Green Bay, Detroit, Cleveland, Toledo and Monroe in Michigan.

Typical international commodity cargoes include pig iron, steel, petroleum products, asphalt, sugar, grain, coal, clay and coke. Duluth also has stressed what is considered “high-value” cargo such as electrical transformers and energy components such as wind generator parts.
